      <title>Technicolor\'s 3D Comeback</title>
      <link>http://www.equipmentemporium.com/home.php?action=fullnews&amp;showcomments=1&amp;id=10</link>
      <description>
         Here is a tidbit that we discussed in brief at the recent BKSTS board meeting in London (we Americans &quot;attended&quot; via Skype). Technicolor is re-inventing itself by offering a very impressive 3D film print to producers. Unlike digital projection, there is no 120Hz flicker to encourage headaches, nor does it require a highly trained projectionist/engineer. The only mods required for conversion is a lens attachment for the projectors and a special silver screen. With but very short training for the projectionists, the theatre can be in the 3D game easily.... Except that it is expensive for small theatre owners! To that effect, Technicolor has partnered up with the filmstock mfr's to offer a financing program so that the small theatre owner can pay off the expenses from a percentage of the 3D added revenues (i.e. 3D glasses rentals). So, in essence, the theatre owner becomes 3D capable without incurring any large up-front costs. Technicolor holds the patents on the 3D print technologies; and will handle post-production and release printing from the D.I. stages upward. Kind of like the olde days, when commercial color prints meant Technicolor prints.Read the official Technicolor press release after the break.
