News & Stuff
Back Up Next We are authorities in production sound recording for video and filmmaking. We also have lots of accessories for videography; and are dealers for Casablanca, AVIO, and Renommee non-linear video editors; as well as turnkey AVID & AVID Liquid (aka Pinnacle) editing solutions.  If you would like a copy of our 2005/2006 "cowboy cover" catalog (free, of course), please phone or e-mail us. We are working on a new 2007 catalog, coming later this year.

Note that we have lowered many prices in order to compete with "New York" discounters. Always call us to check on the latest pricing, and remember to refresh your browser, since we have heard reports of folks looking at olde pages from ancient searches rather than the current ones.

Web Changes

This is where we'll announce the most recent additions to our web site. If you've visited us before and want to know what's changed, take a look here first.

This is where we post important happenings, trends, and announcements from the industry that affect us all. Or just odds & ends worth reading...

News and Whatever...

AG00003_.gif (10348 bytes)

A collection of short articles, comments, opinions, announcements, and misc. dealing with what is new in the realm of production sound.

Some of these are taken from our newsletter, the News & Whatever, that we publish a few times a year. Other articles are just things that have come up recently. Sometimes it is hard to determine when an article belongs here, or when it should be categorized under the library of Sound Articles, so it is always good to browse both areas if you are trying to learn about sound.

The section marked as Product Announcements tends to deal with new products, improvements, or spotlight some of the interesting ones.

We will be creating a section for Professional Associations (including links to them).

Feel free to contribute your own news, views, and insights for posting.

The National Association of Forensic Video is a membership organization that will serve the needs of professionals involved in the field of Forensic Video -- encompassing: Video Depositions; Law Office and Courtroom Video; Crime Scene & Incident Documentation; Government, Law Enforcement, Private Security, and Licensed Private Investigation; Insurance Investigation; Surveillance; Audio Enhancement; Video Enhancement; Visual Anthropology; and other non-theatrical applications of video and audio recording.

Audiotape shortage for Nagra users is covered on our Recording Media page.

New inexpensive daylite balanced lights draws very little amperage yet delivers 400 to 800 watts of lite.  Imagine, an 800 watt metal halide portable lite for under $300. A 400 watt scoop (soft fill) for $89.

UHF wireless mics may be affected by HDTV transmission.

The Audio Technica Pro88 is an entry level wireless, but there are some tricks for improving them.

Tips on using boompoles, particularly the original style (plastic locking collar) RoboPoles.

A good travel agent sure beats an automated travel service when it comes to looking out for YOUR best interests...

It requires a good CPA to help you survive April 15th, especially if you work in the Production industry.  Check out our accountant.

The University Film & Video Association represents film schools and professors from all over the USA and Canada. If you are involved with higher education, then this is the group to network with.

The San Fernando Video Users Group meets at our place approx once every month or so. Mostly made up of Casablanca users, the group is open to everyone in the Valley.

Although it has nothing to do with audio, we are dealers for medieval swords and replicas.

A lot of folks ask us about our cowboy photo on the cover of our catalog. Are those real guns or just props? Yep, the guns and  costumes are real, and that is what some of us do one Sunday a month. Read about Cowboy Action Shooting.
