NOTE: We carry the full line of Mackie, Audio Technica, Alesis, Sign Video,
and Behringer mixers and signal processing products -- which have excellent
reputations for price and performance!
Be careful when using mixers with
camcorders to match the mixer's output level (line or mic) to the appropriate
camcorder input level (mic or line). Line out to mic in will be fuzzy and
distorted. Mic out to line in will be very low volume. If the mixer is line out
only, and the camcorder is mic in only, then use an attenuating pad to reduce
the output level.
Portable ENG Mixing Panels, battery operated
new... ENG44 portable audio mixer $529

The ENG44 is a new product on the market, designed especially for
videographers and independent filmmakers. Affordably priced at only $529, this
over-the-shoulder portable mixer offers four balanced XLR mic/line inputs with low
cut filters and 48vPhantom powering. Outputs are XLR mic/line level, as well as
stereo mini Line Out, stereo mini Mic Out. Bright LED
metering (two brightness settings), slate mic & tone generator, left/center/right stereo positioning,
return monitoring, and uses AA batteries.
And, this is the only mixer in its class to provide a headphone feed for
the boom operator, via a convenient XLR output! By using an XLR rather than
the traditional 1/4-inch, it is easy to use a spare mic cable (taped alongside
the mic cable running to your boomperson) to carry an audio feed to the
boomperson's headphones (yes, you will need an adapter that converts back from
the XLR to headphone 1/4-inch, but that is included.)

We are very excited about this new mixer. It has been long in development,
but the manufacturer wanted to make sure everything came out right, before
releasing the first batch.
We have played with the new mixer, and it is the best deal out there. Tons of
gain, four inputs, phantom power, clean audio, XLR & 1/8-inch outputs, boom
operator output, and it's easy to use. Perfect for field production,
depositions, surveillance.
Fred and Tom provided lots of suggestions during the initial design phase,
and we are happy to see that our ideas were implemented. This mixer offers a lot
of great features, bundled in a readily affordable package. There are other
mixers out there with similar features (although we have not seen the boomperson
output on any of them yet), but those units typically sell for hundreds of
dollars, if not thousands, more!
Read our article on how to use the ENG-44.
A great guide for those new to using mixers!
A wrap-around soft field case is now available for the ENG 44 mixer for only
$49.95
