AT899 Lavalier

The AT899 is quite small, only 5mm in diameter at its thickest point. Being
cylindrical in shape with a top facing grill makes it easier to hide under
wardrobe.
Available in standard black as well as Theatre Beige (TH). Configurations
currently include: the Audio Technica wireless 4-pin locking connector; the TA5
mini XLR for LectroSonics and ATW-U101 wireless; the standard TA3 mini XLR for
use with power modules; and bare-wire pigtails for custom connections.
The AT899 sounds comparable to a Sennheiser MKE-2. It has excellent reach and
doubles as a good plant mic. A slight mid-range presence adds clarity to voice.
Like all Audio Technica products, the AT899 is ruggedly built and designed to
hold up under the rigors of field production.
Each unit comes equipped with an assortment of mounting hardware. Included are
two element caps (grills), two foam windscreens (pull-over), one tie bar, one
viper clip, one magnetic clip, three single mic mounts, and two double mic
mounts. The mic mounts can be interchanged in the tie bar and clips. Spare
accessory kits are readily available.
Although we rarely find ourselves in a situation where we would use the magnetic
mic clip on clothing (running the wire down the front of wardrobe looks
unprofessional) -- the magnetic clip is very useful when using the mic as a
plant mic. If the mounting surface is non-magnetic, then use the accompanying
metal backplate as a "tape on".

Mark 3 Lavalier Power Supply
in TA5 and TA3 versions

Our new power supply, named the Mark 3, utilizes the same TA5 connection as the
Lectrosonics and new Audio Technica ATW-101 wireless.
A version is also available with a Samson wireless style TA3 connector, for use
with mics intended for the UM1 or UM32 systems.
It allows you to use your high quality lavaliers hardwired to a standard XLR mic
cable during those situations when wireless is not viable (too much RF
interference).
The Mark 3 chassis box is completely metal for better RF shielding. The mic is
powered from an AA battery or from available 48v Phantom power. The Mark 3 uses
a high grade audio transformer, and also features a swtichable low-cut filter.
Metal belt clip.
Note: Microphone is not included. Specify normal TA5 or special Samson style
TA3.
Mark 3 Power Supply, only $119.00
Countryman Lavalier Mics
EMW Flat-face B3
Countryman is well known for their high quality, miniature lavalier
microphones used in professional theatre and Broadway shows. Recently, their
mics have gained an excellent reputation in the film/video industry.
Countryman mics provide a crisp, natural dialogue with minimal background.
Phasing problems encountered from actors in close proximity to each other is
virtually eliminated, as is unwanted ambiance. However, this same characteristic
would hinder their usage as plant mics where longer reach is important.
Also note that the B3 capsule is water resistant.
Countryman mics can be ordered with a choice of connectors for various brands of
wireless, although we only list the popular TA5 and the hardwired version. Combo
systems including a wireless style connector and a detachable Countryman power
supply (requires 48v Phantom) are also available.

Make your own free foam windscreens to fit most miniature lavalier
mics...
Find some electronic cleaning swabs and remove the foam head from the wooden
stick.
Cut open the base of the foam head to form a hood. Simply tug the foam over the
mic capsule to create an inexpensive, disposable windscreen.
You can color the windscreen with sharpies or permanent marker pens.
The Newsman's Loop
Proper use of the tie clip
1. Insert the mic head into clip.
2. Bring cable up and thru the
hinge, and then continue down thru the jaws of the clip. The jaws serve to mute
cable vibration.
3. Frontal view. The mic cable
curves around and up thru the hinge. Then it continues behind clothing downward
thru the jaws of the tie bar.
4. Seen from behind the clothing.
The loop continues up from the mic and then loops down thru the jaws.
